Gisell, High School
Gisell, affectionately known as “Gigi,” is a senior with aspirations of becoming a surgeon whose journey reflects resilience and purpose. Despite facing financial hardship, family challenges, and periods of lost motivation, Gigi never doubted she would finish her education. The support and structure provided by the Street School community helped her stay on track, offering guidance, accountability, and a sense of belonging that reignited her drive. Through dual enrollment with Forsyth Tech, she’s already taken steps toward her medical career while still in high school.

Beyond academics, Gigi says the Street School taught her meaningful life lessons—particularly empathy and the importance of seeing the good in others. After graduation, she plans to pursue an associate degree in nursing at Forsyth Tech before attending medical school. To those facing similar challenges, Gigi offers this advice: live with kindness, integrity, and a commitment to personal growth. She defines success not by perfection, but by progress: “Success can sometimes mean failure, but failure means effort, and effort means growth.” Her story highlights the strength that comes from perseverance and the life-changing impact of a supportive learning environment.

Isela, Adult Program
Isela Gomez recently earned her diploma through the Street School online adult education program while juggling the demands of family, work, and personal challenges. Her journey was far from easy—she faced moments of self-doubt and had to pause her studies when life became overwhelming. But with the constant encouragement of her teachers, Mrs. Tammy and Mrs. Denise, Isela found the strength to continue. Their belief in her, along with support from mentors and counselors, gave her the confidence and motivation she needed to persevere.

Now a graduate, Isela looks forward to new opportunities for growth and further education. She encourages others in similar situations to stay the course, no matter how long it takes, saying, “All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” Her story is a testament to the power of resilience and the impact of a strong support system.
